The Commercial Data Purchases (CDP) Imagery Collection contains imagery from several commercial vendors and is archived at the USGS Earth Resources Observation & Science Center (EROS). The CDP supports the Commercial Remote Sensing Space Policy (CRSSP) by providing data to qualified Federal users at no cost. See the Product Info tab for more details.
Commercial vendor licensing may restrict access to imagery, and license restrictions may vary for each individual image. However, users have the option to request license upgrades for imagery not currently licensed for their Federal agency. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
GeoEye’s GeoEye-1 satellite was launched on September 6, 2008 and collects data at a 0.41-meter spatial resolution in the panchromatic mode, (resampled to 0.5-meter) and 1.65-meter resolution in the multispectral mode, with exceptional geolocation accuracy. GeoEye-1 is in a sun-synchronous orbit and makes 15 orbits per day at an altitude of 681 kilometers. Revisit time is three days or sooner, depending on the required look angle. Since its launch in September 1999, GeoEye's IKONOS satellite has provided a reliable stream of image data since January 2000, which has become the standard for commercial high-resolution satellite data products. With an altitude of 681 kilometers and a revisit time of approximately 3 days, IKONOS produces 1-meter resolution panchromatic and 4-meter resolution multispectral imagery that can be combined to accommodate a wide range of high-resolution imagery applications. DigitalGlobe's QuickBird satellite was launched October 18, 2001. An orbit raise was completed in April of 2011, to extend the life of the sensor. The current altitude of 482 kilometers allows the satellite to collect panchromatic data at 65-centimeter resolution, and multispectral data at 2.62-meters resolution. The satellite has a 2.5 day revisit time. QuickBird imagery supports applications ranging from map publishing, to land and asset management, to insurance risk assessment. DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-1 was launched September of 2007, and operates at an altitude of 496 kilometers. WorldView-1 has an average revisit time of 1.7 days and is capable of collecting up to 750,000 square kilometers (290,000 square miles) per day of 0.5-meter resolution panchromatic imagery. The satellite is also equipped with state-of-the-art geolocation accuracy capabilities and exhibits stunning agility with rapid targeting and efficient in-track stereo collection. DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 satellite was launched in October 2009 and acquires 8-band multispectral imagery at 1.85-meter resolution and panchromatic imagery at 46-centimeter resolution. Average revisit time is 1.1 days. WorldView-2 provides highly detailed imagery for precise mapping, change detection, and in-depth image analysis. DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 satellite was launched in August 2014 with enhanced imaging capabilities over previous WorldView satellites. WorldView-3 provides a panchromatic band at 31-centimeter resolution, eight multispectral bands at 1.24-meter resolution, eight shortwave infrared (SWIR) bands at 3.7-meter resolution, and twelve CAVIS (clouds, aerosol, vapor, ice, snow) bands at 30-meter resolution. Average revisit time is less than 1 day with a global collection capacity of 680,000 square kilometers per day. Commercial data held in the USGS archives can be downloaded from EarthExplorer using a valid username and password that allows searching and downloading of commercial data. To gain access to the Commercial datasets on EE, please complete and return the U.S. Federal User Certification form (.pdf) along with your EarthExplorer registered username to email@example.com.
